Submission on the Worker Protection (Migrant and Other Employees) Bill

1 December 2022

The intention of this Bill was to ensure the protection of migrant and other employees in Aotearoa New Zealand through amendments to the Immigration Act 2009, Employment Relations Act 2000, and Companies Act 1993.

  • Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand supports the intent of the Worker Protection Bill.

  • We agree that exploitation of workers – especially migrant or vulnerable workers – should be prohibited as far as it is possible.

  • We agree that the Immigration Act 2009, Employment Relations Act 2000, and Companies Act 1993 should be amended to align together and enable better protection for migrant and other workers.

  • We note that consideration is required around the time allowance for employers to supply employment-related documents or respond to infringement notices.
