A special gift in your will is a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come.
Leave a special gift in your will
When making a will, we must consider our loved ones. However, making a will is also a special opportunity to support the causes closest to our hearts and to leave a lasting legacy.
By including Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand in your will, you can leave a legacy of hope. We are very grateful to receive legacies left to us from individuals who have taken this extraordinary step to support Caritas's work with disadvantaged communities around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand.
How do I leave a gift to Caritas?
A gift in your will can be a monetary gift, a percentage of your estate or left over items from an estate. Your solicitor or Trust company can draft or amend your will for you, and ensure that it is clearly worded and validly signed.
When you have decided to make a provision in your will for Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand, you can either include Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand in a new will, or add a codicil in favour of Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand to an existing will and send it to your lawyer.

Jenny Wallace – ‘a true inspiration’
Those close to her recall the late Jean Mary ‘Jenny’ Wallace as a ‘true inspiration’, someone who listened, gave, prayed, and didn’t judge others. Jenny, who passed away in 2021, left a generous gift to Caritas in her will, meaning her legacy, and desire to help those in need, will live on.

Jenny had travelled widely, but later settled on Waiheke Island, where she was a well-loved local, known for her kindness and generosity as well as her iconic mud-brick house that she herself helped construct.
Those close to her emphasise that Jenny’s priority in life was to help others, something she is widely remembered for.
“Jenny always lent a hand to those in need and was a devout lay preacher with the Franciscans. This was her guiding philosophy in life - she listened, she didn't judge, she gave, she prayed.”
It is clear that Jenny had a profound impact on many people and did so with humility and grace.
“We, as her family, are extremely proud that as someone who started from such humble beginnings, she was able to selflessly give so much to so many through her bequests. That is all she wanted in life really, to help others.”
Jenny’s commitment to the needs of the most vulnerable, and generosity of spirit continues to be remembered.
