Submission on the Three Strikes Legislation Repeal Bill

2 December 2021

In line with submissions by both Caritas and the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference/Te Huinga o ngā Pīhopa Katorika o Aotearoa when the ‘Three Strikes’ legislation was introduced, Caritas supported this repeal bill as it would revert the sentencing process for relevant offences to standard sentencing practices. Repeal of the law minimises the risk of disproportionate sentences being mandated in unwarranted circumstances.
