Case Study

Monitoring the deep sea mining situation in the Pacific is crucial to supporting countries that are vulnerable to exploitation of their natural resources. Caritas advocates for appropriate protection of seafood resources. We support coastal communities that are threatened by the negative environmental impacts of offshore mining and drilling for oil, gas and mineral resources.

We have promoted this issue through our Oceania environmental reports and supported advocacy by people living on the coast, indigenous groups and communities in Aotearoa New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati and Tonga.
