Case Study
Palestinian women who are pregnant or are new mothers face many challenges because of the political and cultural environment in which they live. There is the uncertainty of not knowing whether Israeli army checkpoints will be open, and the wait at the checkpoints can be very long and lead to health complications for mothers and their babies.
We are supporting Caritas Jerusalem to provide ultra-sound, pre and postnatal check-ups and maternal education classes at its health clinic in the village of Aboud, about 30 kilometres north of Jerusalem. The clinic allows women access to medical services without having to travel through checkpoints.
