Social Justice Week 2022
Each year the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand set aside a week in September for Social Justice Week, inviting us to reflect and take action on a current social justice issue.
Te Wiki o te Whai Tika / Social Justice Week
Social Justice Week 2022 runs from Sunday 4th - Saturday 10th September and focuses on the topic of racism in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The title of the Caritas resources is WHAKAKĀHORETIA TE KAIKIRI. KOTAHI ANŌ TĀTOU I ROTO I TE KARAITI / SAY NO TO RACISM. WE ARE ONE IN CHRIST.
As we journey through this Social Justice Week the key question for each of us to reflect on is: “how are we becoming one in Christ?”
Key Resources
Our Social Justice Week 2022 resources for parishes and communities are now available. This year we have provided three resources to promote conversations around racism in our communities, and how we can build peace as one human family.
The Liturgy Resource Booklet contains the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference Statement, liturgy reflections, ideas for Mass and an insert for your parish or community newsletter/notices.
Our Reflection Booklet includes small group discussion guides, with reflection questions and case studies on racism in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Promotional Poster can be displayed in your parish/mass/community centres to spread awareness of Social Justice Week 2022.
We encourage you to use these resources - particularly the Reflection Booklet - not only during Social Justice Week in September, but any time throughout the year. Digital versions of the resources are available to download below.
