What does He Oranga Taurikura mean?

He Oranga Taurikura means ‘A Thriving Life’.

‘Oranga’ is the Māori word for life, but the word encapsulates more than just human life, including the life of a community, an environment or an individual.

‘Taurikura’ has multiple translations but thrive and flourish are the most commonly used. The analogy of a fruit basket heavily resonates with communities in the Pacific.

The act of sharing ‘fruit’ with one another has become an unsaid expectation. The goal of this programme is to work with a community until they are able to be resilient and self-sufficient, and therefore truly thrive. The basket represents the underlying values that make us, the individual, family, community, charity, or organisation.
