Caritas Internationalis Management Standards

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand is a member of Caritas Internationalis (CI), the confederation of Catholic relief, development and social service organisations. CI is a global confederation of more than 160 organisations networked together in 200 countries, as part of the humanitarian and development mission of the Catholic Church.

Caritas aims to uphold the highest standards of management, accountability and transparency and thereby maintain the trust of the faithful and of the many other people around the world for our witness of faith and concrete ability to respond to the needs of the poor.

The CI Management Standards are based on existing Caritas Confederation good practice and accepted global principles within the global humanitarian international development community. As a Member Organisation, Caritas is committed to an agreed system of Management Standards and to accompanying fellow Member Organisations – in both a giving and receiving role.

Council for International Development

The Council for International Development (CID) is the national umbrella agency of international development organisations based in Aotearoa New Zealand. CID was formed in 1985 by a small group of development NGOs and aid agencies to coordinate some activities and present a single voice on issues of common concern. Today CID represents over 50 members, from small community-based organisations to large international NGOs. CID is governed by a board made up of member organisations.

As part of its efforts to be a high-quality charitable organisation with world-class standards of transparency and accountability Caritas is a member of the NZ CID. Consequently Caritas is committed to CID Code of Conduct and CID Code Complaints Handling process.

Caritas has developed policies and procedures related to many areas including (but not limited to) :
