The Catholic Agency for Justice, Peace and Development

Lent

Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.

Each year the Lent Appeal is run by Caritas on behalf of New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops to support our work of charity and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand.

In 2018 our Lenten theme is, Let us go together, which comes from Venerable Suzanne Aubert’s 1885 book New and Complete Manual of Māori Conversation. We are personally called to go on a journey – with each other and with God. In the course of the journey we are changed and we change the world around us.

Resources and the Lenten Reflection Programmes are prepared each year for parishes, schools, small groups and the wider community and will be available through our resources filter page and on this page.
