The Catholic Agency for Justice, Peace and Development

Lent

Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.

Each year the Lent Appeal is run by Caritas on behalf of New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops to support our work of charity and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand.

In 2017 our theme for the Bishops’ Lent Appeal was Your face, Lord, do I seek, which is about encountering the presence of Christ – including in the faces of others. Lent is the time for renewing our encounter with Christ through the Gospels, in the Sacraments and in our neighbours.

Resources and the Lenten Reflection Programmes are prepared each year for parishes, schools, small groups and the wider community and are available through our resources filter page or through the links in the top right corner of this page.

For more information about the Lent Appeal and use of the resources, or to order printed copies, please email us or freephone 0800 22 10 22.
