We continue to provide support for those affected by the major earthquakes in 2015.
Two major earthquakes hit Nepal in April and May 2015. More than 8,800 people were killed and over 16,800 injured. In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, Caritas' emergency response delivered aid to more than 300,000 people, including food, shelter, water and sanitation relief items, and has now helped more than 1.2 million Nepalese.
Our partners Caritas Nepal have been investing in mobilising communities so that when the government distributes funds they will be able to start building immediately.
Caritas Nepal have also constructed demonstration houses in each of the villages where they are working. These houses are used to demonstrate earthquake strengthening techniques and to provide mason training.
Communities are given agriculture training to improve their ability to earn a livelihood, for example: how to sprout seeds before planting them as a way to ensure that what is planted germinates and grows.
