How Caritas is working through the COVID-19 pandemic

Event date:
20 Mar 2020

We live in rapidly changing times. The COVID-19 coronavirus continues to impact people all over the world. At times like this we keep in our prayers those who are sick, those caring for them and those who are facing fear, doubt or loneliness. If you would like to talk to us, please feel free to give us a call at 04 496 1742 or 0800 22 10 22 or email us at caritas@caritas.org.nz

What We are Doing

Caritas staff works remotely on St Patrick's Day

As a member of the Caritas Internationalis network, we are part of the second largest humanitarian organisation in the world. When a crisis like the COVID-19 epidemic strikes, Caritas already has partners on the ground who are ready to reach out to those most in need.

At Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand, we are committed to continuing our work in the face of growing concerns around the spread of the virus. This week, our staff practiced our COVID-19 preparedness plan by working from home (and even had some fun sharing bits of green for St Patrick's Day in our virtual meeting!).

We are confident that we have the tools we need to continue our work and also to nurture our community. We encourage you, if you're feeling isolated or alone, to reach out.

How You Can Help

Patricia and Roman display the Lent Appeal 2020 tracker

Our Lent Appeal is currently underway and is our largest appeal of the year. The gifts you contribute make a life-saving difference, as we are able to use the funding wherever it is most needed.

With your support, we have already raised over 25% of our total fundraising goal for the 2020 Lent Appeal.

(Photo: Patricia, our Support Services Assistant, and Roman, our Database Analyst, celebrate with our office Lent Appeal tracker, which is just over a quarter of the way full.)

You can contribute to the Lent Appeal through donation envelopes at your local parish, by calling us at 04 496 1742 or 0800 22 10 22, or by donating on our website by clicking the button below.

We are hopeful that our response to this pandemic will demonstrate what each of us can do for the good of all, and that lessons learned from this crisis can be applied in other areas of our lives.
