Modern Slavery and trafficking

Caritas Calls for Action Against Modern Slavery.

Pope Francis has spoken out strongly against modern slavery since the beginning of his papacy. His Holiness has described the practice as "an open wound on the body of contemporary society, a scourge against the body of Christ."

40 million people are living in slavery right now. This is more than ever before. Respect for the dignity of all people is a foundational principle in the teaching of the Church and in the scriptures. Modern Slavery is a direct attack on the dignity of people everywhere.

Caritas stands against slavery and continues to support the campaign for New Zealand legislative action to overcome such practices.
