Lent 2019 resources for parishes

Each year the Lent Appeal is run by Caritas on behalf of New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops to support our work of charity and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand. This page contains the resources developed for Lent 2019.
The Lent 2019 theme – “Living Our Lives with Love” – is taken from “Gaudete et Exsultate – Rejoice and Exult” by Pope Francis. The main ideas for the Lent theme are prayerfully discerned from the Lent Gospel readings using a Lectio Divina method at the annual Caritas staff retreat. Those key thoughts are then distilled and brought together at a further specialist staff day of prayer and reflection.
For 2019 the key themes that emerged were new beginnings, patience, compassion, mercy and love. “Living Our Lives with Love” highlights the call to let love permeate all that we do.
Resources and the Lenten Reflection Programmes are prepared each year for parishes, schools, small groups and the wider community. Links for digital versions of each reasource are available below or can be found through our resources filter page.
