Treaty of Waitangi

Caritas advocates on issues arising from Treaty and indigenous rights.

"A solution which discriminates between other Maori property rights and private property rights is not a solution at all."

New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference, Foreshore and Seabed, 2010

Caritas' advocacy on the Treaty of Waitangi includes awareness raising in the wider Catholic community, and work on specific issues, such as the Foreshore and Seabed Act 2004/Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Bill 2010.
