Emergency response

Caritas advocates for justice and peace in response to conflict situations, including in the Middle East and South Sudan and provides input to New Zealand’s legislative response to emergencies. This is grounded in our humanitarian relief work.

New Zealand’s legislative response to emergencies

Caritas is advocating for the adoption of international Sphere standards, which guide our humanitarian response to international emergencies. We discussed this with Parliament’s Regulations Select Committee who are undertaking a review of New Zealand’s legislative response to emergencies, and also made a submission

Kerala, India - Flood Crisis

Declared as the worst flood in a century, the people of Kerala, India, have never faced a deluge of this magnitude before. Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand has sent a solidarity grant to Caritas India who are responding to the community needs. In addition of anyone would like to make a donation to help Caritas India and the people of Kerala then we would welcome your contribution.

Peace in the Middle East

Caritas has commented on legislation concerning New Zealanders who travel to the Middle East to join the conflict with or against ISIS, including making a submission about the issue. We are currently working to help those affected by the crisis in Syria.

Holy Land

Caritas promotes peace with justice for all peoples in the Holy Land - both in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

South Sudan

We have been supporting partners in South Sudan to help the millions who have been displaced through civil conflict, this, along with drought has led to serious food shortages in the country.
