The annual Lent Appeal is run on behalf of New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops. It is our most important appeal of the year, providing almost half of our public donations.
In 2017 our Lenten theme was, 'Your face, Lord, do I seek', which is about encountering the presence of Christ – including in the faces of others. Lent is the time for renewing our encounter with Christ through the Gospels, in the Sacraments and in our neighbours.
Last year, your support of the Bishops’ Lent Appeal meant that more than $1 million was raised from parishes across the country. This enabled Caritas to respond immediately to emergencies, including Cyclone Winston in Fiji, the onoging conflict in Syria, and the refugee crisis in the Middle East and across Europe.
Donations also helped us to work with communities to help them flourish, and helped us to speak out for justice, to influence attitudes and create change.
Together, we can once again reach $1 million, funds that have the capacity to transform the lives of communities around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand.
